My research focuses on capturing sounds that are omnipresent in our environment. Noise pollution was,
in fact, the subject of my DNSEP thesis. This work was inspired by Joseph Beuys's performance Ausfegen, in which he swept up the debris left behind by demonstrators on May 1, 1972. After displaying the collected remains in a glass case, the artist declared: 'Sculpture is neither fixed nor finished.'
The illegal dumping of waste behind
the Avignon School of Art in France, on one side, and the nearby crematorium on the other, led me to reflect on the ways in which human activity is visible, yet not sufficiently audible. What is the difference between the temporality of a human being and that of an object?
I recorded the concrete sounds produced by the debris as I handled it. The resulting composition transcends the original objects, revealing their inherent poetry. In the video projection, the sound work enters into dialogue with images of waste that, once enlarged, take on a sculptural dimension.
